The Triz approach is not to try to find a solution for a problem by trial and error. Instead, look for the generic problem you are trying to solve and find solutions to that. Then you can more easily find solutions that are specific to your problem. Someone somewhere is likely to have solved the generic problem before thus making your search both quicker and more effective.
