Commercial UAV Show

Here's a quick rundown on the show. If you are in London, it is also on today at the ExCel in East London. It is the largest UAV show in Europe with around 100 exhibitors from across the World. Usefully, they also hold seminars on UAV topics throughout the day and also drone demonstrations in a netted area.

There was a wide range of exhibitors showcasing not only drones but cameras, flight management software, insurance, training and more.

Prize for the largest drone on show must go to Motion Robotics with their Carry. It was massive at nearly 3m across. It was displayed here carrying a car roof box.

Xunta de Galicia/Babcock followed closely with the helicopter designed for search & rescue.

iRED had an interesting, live, thermal imaging system monitoring passers-by.

Tritex NDT were showcasing their Multigauge system that can be attached to a drone and used for ultrasonic thickness measurement for monitoring metal corrosion on wind turbines and tanks.

Finally, Flyability (who developed the Elios drone) had a big update to their usual booth. They had created a confined space where they could post in the drone through a small hole and people could then watch it explore via a camera and monitor. A great improvement to the standard netted area as it really showcased their particular niche well.

There were lots of (fairly) short talks going on across several speaking areas covering topics such as innovation, research & development, security, regulations and case studies. Too many to mention but I found the 3D and visualisation talks some of the most interesting. "Tree pruning drones with computer vision guidance" by someone from a New Zealand university was pretty impressive.

It is a very worthwhile event with a diverse, and interesting, range of exhibitors and talks. We'll be updating the Idea Catalog with some new entries and additions to existing ones over the next few days.
